Redemption Single Barrel Bourbon is hand selected by Master Blender Alan Kennedy for character, structure, and balance. But it is also a Bottled in Bond whiskey, meaning distilled by only one distillery in a single distilling season, matured in a government-supervised warehouse and bottled at 100 proof. It’s also at least four years old, but in this instance the age statement is 6 years. So, the distinction here is instead of batching it with other similarly qualified barrels, just one barrel at a time is tapped.
The Bourbon
Redemption Single Barrel Bourbon is meant to represent high standards of the Redemption Distillery. The bourbon is distilled in one season and aged for at least six years in new, charred American White Oak casks. I tasted the Fall 2018 edition. Redemption Single Barrel Bourbon Bottled in Bond is comprised of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley – bottled at 100 proof/50% ABV.
Color: Soft Bronze
The nose begins with hints of sweet corn, caramel, toasted marshmallow, charred oak, and vanilla. The palate is a touch spicier with notes of candy apple, caramel, vanilla, crem brulee, and charred oak. The finish is long with lingering spices that end with notes of vanilla and charred oak.
