Port Askaig has announced two additions to its core lineup of Islay single malt whiskies, bringing back the discontinued Port Askaig 100 Proof and introducing a new Port Askaig Sherry Cask expression. Both bottlings will be available at independent retailers from early May 2026.

Originally released in 2015, Port Askaig 100 Proof was pulled from shelves after the brand struggled to source consistent liquid without compromising quality. The expression earned a devoted following among critics and enthusiasts during its original run.

The revived 100 Proof is matured exclusively in unrinsed first-fill bourbon barrels and bottled in small batches of approximately 60 casks at 57.1% ABV. It carries a UK RRP of £59.95. The expression is labeled as 110 Proof in the US market.

Port Askaig Sherry Cask, meanwhile, is bottled at 50.5% ABV from a small batch of 20 Oloroso sherry butts exclusively sourced from the renowned Spanish cooperage of Jose y Miguel Martin. It carries a UK RRP of £64.95.

Head blender Oliver Chilton described the thinking behind both releases. “We have now nurtured the 100 Proof spirit since distillation, allowing us to deliberately shape a rich flavor profile, with earthy bourbon-cask sweetness and balanced peat smoke, ideal for bottling at high-strength,” Chilton said.

“And to make sure our line-up of whiskies is as balanced as the whisky itself, a refined sherry cask expression was needed,” he added.

Chilton expressed confidence in the expanded portfolio. “At Port Askaig we strive to create the revered iconic Islay flavor profile of the past. Adding these two new expressions, we are confident we have achieved the perfect balance and variety to satisfy every Islay whisky enthusiast,” he said.

The full Port Askaig core range now comprises Port Askaig 8 Year Old, Port Askaig 100 Proof, Port Askaig Sherry Cask, and Port Askaig 15 Year Old. The latter is currently transitioning from the previous 17 Year Old designation.

Official tasting notes from the brand describe the 100 Proof as featuring toasted rye bread with honey and lemon zest on the nose, bright citrus with ginger and light caramel sweetness on the palate, and a finish of chocolate limes and raspberry leaf. The Sherry Cask offers smoked damson jam and blackcurrant cordial on the nose, dense jammy fruit with coal smoke and dark chocolate-covered cherries on the palate, and a finish of dark chocolate nibs with tarragon and dried mint.

Port Askaig is part of the Elixir Distillers portfolio, the independent bottling venture founded by Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh. The brand sources whisky from undisclosed Islay distilleries and has built a reputation for offering high-quality Islay malts at accessible price points.
