Old Forester has released Triple Char Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky, the newest expression in its limited 117 Series. The bottling is the first Old Forester whiskey crafted entirely from spirit distilled at the brand’s Old Forester Distillery on Louisville’s Main Street.
The release marks a milestone for the distillery, which opened in 2018 as a working production site and visitor destination. Since then, the facility has served as a home for the next generation of Old Forester whiskey.
Triple Char is matured in barrels charred three times longer than the brand’s standard specification. The extended char intensifies the interaction between whiskey and oak. According to the brand, the process produces a bold bourbon with heightened oak character and layered complexity.India’s Finest Single Malts: Exceptional Whiskies Every Connoisseur Should Experience
“Triple Char is an exciting new chapter for Old Forester and our 117 Series,” said Caleb Trigo, assistant master distiller. “Not only is it the first expression made entirely from whiskey distilled at our Main Street distillery, but the extended barrel char allows us to showcase that spirit in a completely new way. The result is a bourbon with remarkable richness, intense spice and a depth of oak that demonstrates both our heritage and our continued spirit of innovation.”
The bourbon is bottled at 115 proof (57.5% ABV) in 375ml format. It carries a suggested retail price of $64.99.
Official tasting notes from the brand describe a nose of pecan praline, crisp juicy apple and bright stone fruit, with undertones of cardamom, honeysuckle and sweet leather.
The palate offers buttery baked apple cobbler, cinnamon spice and pepper, leading to notes of oak char. The finish shows rich oak, soft leather and subtle hints of sweet licorice.
Triple Char joins the 117 Series, a collection highlighting distinctive barrels, production techniques and experimental releases. The range first debuted in 2021. Previous 117 Series expressions include 1910 Extra Extra Old, Whiskey Row Fire and High Angels’ Share.
The limited release will be available at the Old Forester Distillery at 119 W Main Street, Louisville, and at select Kentucky retailers.
Old Forester is the founding brand of Brown-Forman. It was created in 1870 by George Garvin Brown, who sealed and signed each bottle with the pledge: “There is nothing better in the market.” The brand is recognized as America’s first bottled bourbon.
