Inside the £300,000 Whisky Auction: Distillers One of One 2025 Preview

    Published on

This October, some of the rarest and most creative bottles of Scotch whisky ever produced will go under the hammer at Sotheby’s in Edinburgh. The Distillers One of One auction has become the high point of the whisky calendar for serious collectors, combining boundary-pushing design with extraordinary liquid, and all in aid of charity.

The auction is unique in that every lot is a true one-off, donated by distilleries, bottlers, and artists to raise funds for youth charities across Scotland. In just a few short years, the event has raised millions, while showcasing the artistry of Scotch in ways rarely seen outside of museum cases.

Distillers One of One 2025 Highlights

Highlights in the 2025 line-up include the Port Ellen Prism 46 Year Old 1978, presented in a futuristic crystal structure that looks more science fiction than Scotch; the Laphroaig Capsule 40 Year Old, the oldest official release from the Islay distillery; and the Glen Grant Eternal 77 Year Old 1948, which combines record-breaking age with striking product design. Other standouts include the Old Pulteney Polaris 47 Year Old, Royal Brackla 54 Year Old, Ladyburn “Marilyn Monroe” 58 Year Old, and Gordon & MacPhail’s 130th Anniversary Collection.

Independent bottlers also have their moment, with Adelphi’s Imperial 1996 One of One, Whisk-E Ltd’s The Journey 30 Year Old (Arran), and Glen Scotia’s Four Quarters 1999 all reflecting the growing strength of the indie scene.

    Whisky Presentations Like No Other

Estimates range from accessible four-figure casks and experiences to show-stopping bottles expected to fetch upwards of £300,000. Beyond the numbers, however, the auction is about imagination: bold bottle design, collaborations with artists, and the idea that whisky can be both cultural artefact and collectible.

To give you a closer look, we’ve put together a full video preview that walks through more than 30 of the lots, with commentary on design, presentation, and price expectations.
