Glenfarclas tends to bottle an Easter Edition for the German market. This year they released the Easter Edition 2014 vintage, fully matured in sherry casks. Judging by the (natural) colour and the preferences of the distillery, probably second fill or even third fill sherry casks.

    Glenfarclas 2014 ‘Easter Edition’ (46%, OB 2025, 3000 btl.)

Nose: their typical balanced (refill) sherry influence. Minty freshness with some coppery hints. Really citrusy, on orange peels, lemons and subtle hints of green apple. Then also a dustier note, with hay, bread dough and a some old wood. A light nuttiness comes out after a while.Mouth: quite sweet, with more citrusy notes. Oranges, pears, light vanilla cream and hints of raisins. A bit of honey. Mid-palate the sherry spice comes out: ginger and nutmeg. Then dark chocolate appears, along with more roasted nuts and light hints of tobacco.Finish: medium, with warming spice and a light caramelly sweetness, along with a slightly drying leathery note. This Glenfarclas is rather on the light side of the spectrum, so indeed appropriate for the Easter season. A kind of sherry that is becoming less common. Rather nice but a bit pricey for what it has to offer. Around € 65-70 from German stores, or also from The Netherlands through Whiskysite.nl for instance.
