Speyside distillery Tamdhu has launched a brand new, 21 year old single malt, marking a significant addition to its sherry-matured whisky portfolio. The limited Tamdhu 21 Year Old, fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks, is bottled at 47.5% ABV and priced at £299 per 70cl bottle.
Sandy McIntyre, Distillery Manager at Tamdhu, emphasized the brand’s dedication to quality aging. “Our patience and dedication shines through in every sip of Tamdhu 21YO,” McIntyre said. “This latest release is a fine example of our commitment to the Spain-to-Speyside journey that every Tamdhu expression benefits from. Oloroso Sherry Casks from Spain deliver excellence for our whisky and help make this brand, produced in one of the most unspoilt parts of Scotland, uniquely refined in flavour.”
Spanish Influence Central to Brand Identity
The Speyside distillery, established in 1897 and now owned by family-operated Ian Macleod Distillers, has built its reputation on exclusive use of Oloroso sherry casks for maturation.
This Spanish connection is highlighted in the packaging design. The iconic octagonal bottle comes housed in a Royal green cut-work gift case featuring Spanish-Moorish design elements that reflect the Southern Spanish heritage of the sherry casks. A gold wood closure and branded gold capsule complete the premium presentation.
According to the distillery, the oak used for these special casks originates from both Spain and North America, with all coopering work completed by family-run operations in Jerez, Spain.

Tamdhu 21 Year Old Flavor Profile
Gordon Dundas, Global Brand Ambassador for Tamdhu, noted the distinctive characteristics of the release. “This limited ‘coming of age’ 21-year-old release, like all Tamdhu single malts, is fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks to deliver a flavor profile and entirely natural color that makes this spirit elegant and distinctive,” Dundas said.
Tasting notes for the Tamdhu 21 Year Old describe a nose featuring sherried oak with chocolate, sultanas, velvety toffee and warm cinnamon porridge oats, complemented by hints of mocha and marzipan. The palate presents Christmas cake notes with sherry-soaked raisins, candied oranges, and gentle oak.
The experience concludes with what the distillery describes as “a long, smooth finish with waves of oak and warm spices giving way to rich, syrupy fruits.”
Tamdhu utilizes its own local spring water from the banks of the River Spey for production, maintaining a connection to its Speyside terroir despite the Spanish influence on maturation.
The Tamdhu 21 Year Old will be available through specialist retailers globally and via the distillery’s official website.
