Glen Moray has unveiled two new limited-edition whiskies finished in Canadian maple syrup casks, marking a first in the distillery’s 125-year history. The exclusive bottlings debuted at the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, which is currently in full swing. The festival will end on May 5, 2025.

With just over 200 bottles of each expression available globally, these rare releases continue Glen Moray’s tradition of innovative cask exploration while showcasing the Elgin-based distillery’s signature Speyside character.

Both expressions were initially matured in American oak before being finished in barrels that previously held Canadian maple syrup. The non-chill filtered whiskies come in two distinct variations—peated and unpeated.

The unpeated version (59% ABV) delivers a dessert-like profile with notes of sticky toffee, brown sugar, and vanilla fudge. Its peated counterpart (59.1% ABV) introduces gentle smoke alongside layers of treacle, smoked spice, and maple glaze.

“We’re always exploring new cask finishes to push the boundaries of flavour,” said Iain Allan, Global Brand Ambassador at Glen Moray. “These limited-edition maple syrup casks are a bold example—the maple influence is immediate and unmistakable: rich, syrupy sweetness that adds depth and indulgence, while still allowing the Glen Moray character to shine through.”

    Festival Showcase and Availability

Festival attendees have first access to these innovative expressions through various events including ‘Breakfast Tours’, ‘Boozy Brunch Tastings’, Cask Origin Stories’, and exclusive Whisky Talks sessions.

“We love surprising people at Spirit of Speyside—these playful, flavour-packed bottlings show our curiosity as distillers and prove that even after 125 years, we’re still finding new ways to bring flavour to life,” Allan added.

Both expressions will continue to be available at the Elgin distillery while supplies last, priced at £90 per bottle.

Established in 1897, Glen Moray has built its reputation as a “Cask Explorer” by continually pushing the boundaries of whisky maturation—a legacy perfectly embodied in these maple syrup-finished expressions.
