Wyoming Whiskey has launched Buffalo Bill Cody, a Wyoming-exclusive limited-edition bourbon that pays tribute to the legendary frontiersman who helped shape the American West. The 6-year-old straight bourbon whiskey honors the legacy of William “Buffalo Bill” Cody, the fearless showman who became one of the most recognized Americans worldwide through his iconic Wild West performances.

Wyoming Whiskey crafted this special release from grains farmed in Wyoming soil and distilled in Kirby, using a blend of 26 barrels from the distillery’s rickhouses. The bourbon launches in celebration of Wyoming Whiskey’s production anniversary, which began on July 4, 2009.

Honoring Buffalo Bill, A Wild West Legend

Buffalo Bill Cody lived an extraordinary life that embodied the spirit of the American frontier. From his early days as a Pony Express rider and Union soldier to earning the Medal of Honor and founding the town of Cody, Wyoming, his adventures became the stuff of legend. His Wild West show brought frontier excitement to audiences across the globe, making him an international celebrity during his lifetime.

The distillery’s annual Wyoming-exclusive releases celebrate the rich history of the Cowboy State, spotlighting the people, places, and stories that shaped Wyoming over the centuries. Buffalo Bill Cody serves as a liquid tribute to the Wild West era.

Wyoming Whiskey Buffalo Bill Cody Tasting Notes

Master blender Brendan Cook designed Buffalo Bill Cody to stand apart from Wyoming Whiskey‘s regular portfolio while maintaining the distillery’s signature flavor profile. “When creating Buffalo Bill Cody, we wanted a product that stood out from the rest of our portfolio and other Wyoming Only releases but stayed true to the Wyoming Whiskey pillars of flavor: caramel, orange, vanilla, dark dried fruits, and spice,” Cook explained. “We wanted to lean into the Buffalo Bill name and create a liquid that we believe Bill would have enjoyed himself as he made his way across the American West.”

The bourbon features distinctive notes that reflect its namesake’s rugged lifestyle, including leather and tobacco characteristics alongside Wyoming Whiskey’s trademark sweetness. According to the official tasting notes, Buffalo Bill Cody presents a copper color with aromas of leather, Black Forest cake featuring cherry and chocolate, toffee, and honeyed almonds. The palate delivers lemon cake with caramel nougat, milk chocolate, almond brittle, and honey, finishing with cherry and lemon puree, candied ginger, molasses, and tobacco with a drying finish.

Buffalo Bill Cody Straight Bourbon Whiskey bottled at 97 proof (48.5% ABV) carries a suggested retail price of $79.99 and remains available exclusively in Wyoming.
