Westward Whiskey has introduced its first club release of 2025, Westward x Fort George Brewery Stout Cask.

Westward’s latest expression builds on a nine-year history of crafting stout cask finished American single malts, with Fort George Brewery standing as one of its original and most valued collaborators. This release celebrates the distinctive character of Fort George’s renowned Matryoshka Stout.

The innovative “double stouting” process, led by Master Blender Miles Munroe, first ages mature Westward whiskey in freshly emptied stout beer casks before transferring it to Fort George’s recently returned Matryoshka Stout barrels. This two-step approach intensifies the whiskey’s depth and complexity.

“At Westward, we continue to honor our history as ex-brewers by developing new ways to express flavors that take Stout Cask further than before,” said Munroe. “This is new territory for this expression as we focus on one distinct and beloved stout profile and raise the bottling proof to bring balance and more dynamics to the spirit.”

A Symphony of Flavors

The higher proof bottling—115 proof (57.5% ABV)—enhances the whiskey’s rich character while maintaining balance. The result delivers deep layers of roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee notes, complemented by subtle sweetness and a robust finish.

Tasting notes reveal a complex aroma profile featuring baking chocolate, dried dark fruits, and brown sugar. On the palate, dark chocolate dominates alongside blueberries, orange pee,l and toasted nuts, while the finish offers notes of Bananas Foster, brown sugar, and rich malted barley.
