Proper 12 was co-founded by Irishman and former UFC Champion Connor MacGregor, but the brand is now owned by Proximo Spirits. Following scandal, MacGregor is no longer the public face of the brand. The 13 Year Limited release is the first of the 13 Year series of single malt whiskeys, a few steps above the standard Proper 12.

    The Whiskey
I was pleasantly surprised when tasting this single malt. This Irish Single Malt is matured for 13 years, marrying American Oak first-fill Bourbon casks and European Oak second-fill Ruby Port casks. This gives the dram a silky but smooth mouth feel. Proper 12 13 Year Limited Release No. 1 is bottled at 43% ABV/86 proof.

    Color: Deep Bronze

On the nose are notes of fresh red berries, vanilla, oak, cinnamon spice, and orange peel. The palate is silky and smooth with notes of baking spices, candy apple, red berries, oak, and graham cracker. The finish is long with lingering spices and oakiness.

    The Price
Proper 12 13 Year Limited Release No. 1 can be found in limited areas for $60.
