Pappy & Company has unveiled The Woodshop, a new venture that breathes fresh life into retired Pappy Van Winkle bourbon barrels. The collection transforms reclaimed barrel wood into handcrafted bar accessories, home décor, and functional furnishings, creating unique pieces that carry the heritage of some of the world’s most sought-after bourbon.

The Woodshop represents a collaboration with master craftsman Jason Cohen, a Louisville-based woodworker with over 20 years of experience. The initiative addresses a common challenge in the bourbon industry: what to do with barrels that have completed their aging journey but retain rich character and history.

Sustainable Craftsmanship Meets Bourbon Heritage At The Woodshop

The barrels used in The Woodshop have endured Kentucky’s dynamic seasons for up to 23 years, expanding and contracting to develop the complex character that defines Pappy Van Winkle bourbon. Since bourbon regulations prohibit reusing these barrels for aging, Pappy & Company has found an innovative way to honor their history.

“We take pride in keeping our barrels close, honoring their history by giving them a new life,” according to the company’s website. Each piece strikes a balance between rugged authenticity and refined craftsmanship, transforming what would otherwise be discarded materials into lasting heirlooms.

The collection includes items ranging from a Barrel Stave Grilling Tool Set priced at $125 to a Bourbon Barrel Stave Ashtray Box at $185. Other offerings include The Staveburst Mirror and a Bourbon Barrel X Cigar Rest for $25.

Pappy & Company X Jason Cohen

Jason Cohen’s journey to The Woodshop began after a life-changing accident, leading him to find purpose in woodworking. He eventually discovered his passion for barrel stave wood, bringing a unique understanding of the material’s properties and potential.

Each handcrafted piece serves as a bridge between past and present, allowing bourbon enthusiasts to bring a tangible piece of Pappy’s legacy into their homes while supporting sustainable practices in the spirits industry.
