Old Forester has announced the national debut of one of its rarest whiskies, President’s Choice, marking the first time the bourbon will be available at select retailers nationwide. The Kentucky distillery is also introducing President’s Choice Rye for the first time, expanding the ultra-premium line beyond its original bourbon offering.
Previously exclusive to the Old Forester Distillery in Louisville, President’s Choice represents the pinnacle of the brand’s barrel selection program. The expression draws inspiration from private single barrels offered in 1964 by former Old Forester president George Garvin Brown II.

“President’s Choice has always been an incredibly rare and cherished bottle, and most consumers have never seen it, let alone tasted the whisky,” said Master Taster Melissa Rift. “We are honored to bring it to a wider audience.”
The national debut begins Saturday, June 14 at 10 am ET, with limited bottles available for in-person purchase at the distillery and through the company’s online store for shipping to select state,s including D.C., Kentucky, Nebraska, New Hampshire, and North Dakota.
Each President’s Choice barrel undergoes rigorous selection from Old Forester’s historic brick warehouses in Louisville. The barrels are aged between seven and nine years, with bottling proof points selected by Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo and Rift to highlight each barrel’s unique flavor profile. Proof typically ranges from 110 to 125.
Craftsmanship Standards Define Premium Positioning
“Every barrel selected for President’s Choice tells a story,” Trigo said. “These are the barrels that showcase an extraordinary depth of character. Whether it’s the bourbon or our new rye, each bottle represents the pinnacle of Old Forester’s craftsmanship.”
The rigorous selection process ensures only the finest barrels earn the President’s Choice designation. Both the bourbon and rye expressions carry a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $225, positioning them in Old Forester’s super-premium tier.
The addition of President’s Choice Rye expands Old Forester’s high-end portfolio while maintaining the same quality standards that have defined the bourbon expression. The new rye offering provides whiskey enthusiasts another avenue to experience barrels pulled from the distillery’s most exceptional inventory.
