Founded in 2008, Ohio’s Middle West Distillery is a very locally rooted company. Their still and other hardware mostly comes from Vendome in Louisville, Kentucky; their barrels from Speyside Cooperage’s plant in Jackson, Ohio.

    The Whiskey
Middle West Straight Wheat Whiskey is produced using Ohio soft red winter wheat grains and matured in newly charred and toasted oak barrels. There is no age statement on the bottle, but to me, it tasted rather young. Middle West Straight Wheat Whiskey is bottled at 46% ABV/92 Proof.

    Color: Deep Bronze

The nose starts with a hit of charred oak. The oakiness then fades to some vanilla, cereal, and peppery notes. I also picked up some gentle smores sweetness. The palate hits even harder with vanilla and oak followed by baking spices and lingering pepper. The finish is long, oaky, and spicy.

    The Price
Middle West Straight Wheat Whiskey $46.99.
