Loch Lomond Group has acquired Brooklyn-based New York Distilling Company (NYDC), marking the Scottish spirits producer’s first entry into the American whiskey market.

The acquisition adds NYDC’s portfolio of spirits to Loch Lomond’s existing lineup, including the signature Jaywalk Rye Whiskey brand. This move follows the group’s recent announcement of a new distillery and visitor center in Luss, Dumbartonshire, Scotland, scheduled to open in June 2025.

Historic Rye Revival at the Heart of Acquisition

Jaywalk Rye Whiskey stands as the centerpiece of NYDC’s portfolio, featuring expressions made with Horton Heirloom Rye, a historic grain variety brought to America from Europe in the 17th century.

The rare rye variety had nearly disappeared until NYDC received 10 seeds from Cornell University’s seed bank in 2015. The company has since successfully cultivated the grain with partner farmers in Seneca Falls, New York.

In addition to Jaywalk Rye, the acquisition includes other NYDC brands such as Mister Katz Rock & Rye, Dorothy Parker Gin, and Perry Tot’s Navy strength gin.

An Expansion of Loch Lomond Group’s Premium Portfolio

The deal enhances Loch Lomond Group’s existing collection of premium spirits, which includes Loch Lomond Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Glen Scotia, Littlemill, Glen’s Vodka, Ben Lomond Gin, and Champagne Piaff.

Allen Katz and Tom Potter, Founders of the New York Distilling Company, expressed enthusiasm about joining forces with the Scottish spirits group.

The acquisition comes during a period of strong growth for the group, which recently saw five products shortlisted for Best in Class at the San Francisco Wines and Spirits Competition. Two products, Glen Scotia 25 Year Old and Loch Lomond Whiskies Remarkable Stills Alchemy expression, received scores of 99/100.

Loch Lomond Whiskies and Ben Lomond Gin currently serve as the Official “Spirits of The Open,” the prestigious golf championship.
