Glenmorangie has unveiled a significant upgrade to one of its most beloved expressions, transforming The Lasanta into a 15 Year Old whisky with a refined cask maturation recipe designed to enhance its signature rich spice and sweet flavor profile.
The reimagined single malt now undergoes a longer maturation period in a carefully selected combination of bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, resulting in a more complex and elegant whisky experience.
This innovation follows a similar change for Glenmorangie Original, which was recently upgraded to a 12-year age statement.
Whisky enthusiasts in the UK can purchase Glenmorangie Lasanta 15 Years Old beginning in April through the distillery’s website and at the Visitor Centre in Tain, with a recommended retail price of £54.
Glenmorangie Lasanta: Evolution of a Classic
Under the guidance of Director of Whisky Creation Dr. Bill Lumsden and Master Blender Gillian Macdonald, Glenmorangie’s whisky creators determined they could elevate The Lasanta’s already popular flavor profile by extending its maturation and refining its cask recipe.
“With its rich spice and luscious sweetness, Glenmorangie Lasanta is a whisky that elicits the radiant wonder of sunset and has been a favourite of Glenmorangie fans for some time,” said Dr. Lumsden. “Now aged for 15 years in an enhanced selection of bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, we’ve introduced even more complex and elegant notes to this whisky, all working together in delicious balance.”
The Highland distillery, known for its distinctively tall stills, has long been associated with a more delicate, fruity spirit character. This physical feature of the stills allows more space for taste and aroma development during distillation.
Pioneer in Wood Finishing
Glenmorangie’s expertise in wood finishing dates back nearly four decades, with the company being among the industry pioneers of this now-common practice. The technique has become central to the distillery’s approach to creating different flavor profiles across its range.
The newly enhanced Lasanta joins other wood-finished expressions in Glenmorangie’s core portfolio, including The Quinta Ruban, which undergoes finishing in port casks, and The Nectar, which receives additional maturation in dessert wine casks.
According to the distillery, The Lasanta 15 Years Old delivers “an endless horizon of tastes and aromas” featuring notes of raisins, honey, toffee, clove and cinnamon, all contributing to what they describe as a “sun-drenched finesse”. The brand press release states, “If you could sup a sunset, it would taste like Lasanta”.
