In a testament to Scotland’s whisky-making heritage, The Glen Grant Distillery has unveiled its most ambitious release yet – a 65 Year Old single malt scotch whisky priced at $50,000.
The rare spirit marks the debut of the Splendours Collection, a series of limited releases drawn from the distillery’s most exceptional casks. Distilled in 1958 and matured for over six decades, the 65 Year Old is presented as the first chapter in what will be a multi-year unveiling of rare whiskies.
Garden of Splendours-Inspired Design
Each of the 151 decanters has been handcrafted as a Möbius strip seed pod, designed by artisans John Galvin and Glasstorm. The design, engraved with Himalayan Blue Poppies, pays homage to the distillery’s Garden of Splendours, where the rare flower still blooms today.
The garden connection runs deep at Glen Grant, established more than 180 years ago in Speyside. The distillery’s eccentric forefather, James “The Major” Grant, was known for both his whisky-making prowess and his passion for botanical cultivation – a legacy that continues to influence the brand’s identity.
The Glen Grant 65 Year Old
Greig Stables, Master Distiller at The Glen Grant, described the whisky as a “testament to unwavering approach to whisky making and visionary innovation”. He noted that despite being distilled in 1958, the methods remain largely unchanged today, reflecting the legacy of the distillery’s forefathers. “Although distilled back in 1958, the methods remain almost entirely the same today reflecting the legacy of our forefathers. This whisky captures a lifetime of flavour and character from its journey in a single French oak butt. This time has created a magnificent single malt, which despite its lengthy union in oak, retains the distinct and singular character of The Glen Grant.”
The 65 Year Old was matured in a single French oak butt and stored in Warehouse No.4, the distillery’s oldest traditional stone dunnage warehouse, until 2025. The resulting liquid is described as having deep mahogany hues, with aromas of treacle, ripe blackberries, and sandalwood. On the palate, it reportedly delivers bursts of orange and black cherries, alongside fruit cake and sticky dates, before a lingering finish of citrus, spice, and a subtle hint of smoke.
The Glen Grant 65 Year Old is available across retail channels in key markets around the world at RSP of $50,000.
The Glen Grant & Random International
To celebrate the launch, the distillery has partnered with post-digital art group Random International for a series of events during Hong Kong’s Art Week in late March. The collaboration, titled “Seasons”, will feature the creation of 65 bespoke artworks over four events at The Upper House Hong Kong, symbolizing the 65 Year Old whisky and the passage of seasons.
“Our bespoke Pixelography performance ‘Seasons’ is an artistic response to The Glen Grant’s celebration of cyclical change in The Garden of Splendours, especially spanning across the decades it took to craft and perfect the 65 Year Old,” explained Hannes Koch, co-founder of Random International. “This informed our creation of the custom source imagery for ‘Seasons’; and it is also embodied in the Pixelography process itself, wrestling unlimited, intangible, digital imagery back into the finite, material world through the very act of painting.”
The Glen Grant has increasingly positioned itself in the ultra-luxury whisky market, with recent notable releases including a 70 Year Old “Devotion” and “The Visionary One of One”, a 68-Year-Old expression created for the Distillers’ One of One auction.
The new whisky will be available across retail channels in key global markets, joining an increasingly competitive field of ultra-aged luxury spirits aimed at collectors and connoisseurs.
