    Chattanooga Whiskey Releases Bourbon Limecello

Chattanooga Whiskey’s latest experimental release puts a citrus twist on traditional bourbon production. The Tennessee distillery has launched Batch 044: Bourbon Barreled Limecello, a limited-edition liqueur that combines column-distilled whiskey with over 130 pounds of citrus peel.

Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Series Continues Evolution

The new release marks the third installment in the distillery’s citrus-based liqueur collection. Following Limoncello in 2023 and Citracello in 2024, this year’s Limecello represents a refined approach to fruit-infused spirits.

“Every Experimental Single Batch is an opportunity for our distillers to say something new. And while we never really repeat the same idea twice, our distillers are open to revisiting and reimagining a handful of concepts,” said Grant McCracken, Founding Distiller.

The liqueur uses the distillery’s signature “Barrel 91” mash bill combined with lime peel, lemon peel, and galangal root. This marks the first time Chattanooga Whiskey has used exclusively column-distilled whiskey in a liqueur product. The column distillation process, which uses a 30-foot still, produces a more floral and herbaceous spirit compared to traditional pot distillation.

The limited batch consists of only five barrels finished for nearly three months in single-use Tennessee High Malt barrels. This finishing process adds vanilla notes to complement the citrus character.

Chattanooga Whiskey Positions Limecello for Summer Market

Batch 044: Bourbon Barreled Limecello arrives at 83.2 proof and will retail for $44.99 for a 750ml bottle. Distribution begins Thursday, July 3, at the Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Distillery, with online sales available through Seelbachs.com for select states.

Official tasting notes describe flavors of key lime pie, lemon meringue, orange blossom tea, lemongrass, and jasmine. The distillery emphasizes that all liqueurs contain 100% real whiskey and natural ingredients, distinguishing them from many commercial liqueurs that use neutral spirits or artificial flavoring.

Chattanooga Whiskey operates two facilities in Tennessee. The Experimental Distillery, established after the company successfully challenged laws prohibiting local whiskey production, serves as the only standalone experimental distillery in the United States. The facility hosts over 50,000 visitors annually. The Riverfront Distillery, opened in 2017, produces the company’s core range including Chattanooga Whiskey 91, Cask 111, and 99 Rye.

The distillery gained international recognition in 2023 when Whisky Magazine named it Icons of Whisky – Craft Producer of the Year for both America and globally. The company specializes in Tennessee High Malt style whiskey, a designation that emphasizes their use of specialty malts in production.

The experimental series allows Chattanooga Whiskey’s distillers to explore unconventional techniques and flavor profiles outside their standard bourbon production. Previous experimental batches have included various mash bills, yeast strains, and aging methods.
