Memphis-based Blue Note Bourbon has announced the release of its second annual Special Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey, featuring an intricate blend from 10 unique finishing casks.

The limited release combines whiskeys ranging from 4 to 19 years old, sourced from Kentucky and Tennessee. The expression is bottled at 116.3 proof (58.15% ABV) without filtration.

The blend incorporates spirits finished in cognac, madeira, sherry, port, triple sec, apricot brandy, amontillado, vanilla cognac, and vino de Naranja casks, creating a complex flavor profile.

The whiskey offers bright fruit, cherry, and peach notes on the nose, complemented by leather, oak, and vanilla. On the palate, it presents a creamy and light texture with oak, vanilla, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, and citrus notes, concluding with a warm finish featuring a chewy, slightly dry texture.

“Having launched several wildly successful limited releases in recent years, whiskey enthusiasts have come to expect these types of unique offerings from Blue Note,” said Chris Crosbie, Vice President of Sales at B.R. Distilling Company. “This year’s Special Reserve is both exceptional and uncommon having been crafted from 10 unique types of casks.”

    Memphis Aging Process

Blue Note partners with Bardstown Bourbon Company for distillation, then ages their whiskey north of downtown Memphis where the Mississippi and Wolf Rivers meet. The region’s distinctive climate, with hot summers and cool evenings, drives the spirit deep into the oak barrels, creating what the company describes as an unmistakably rich flavor that’s bold yet smooth.

    Distribution and Portfolio

Approximately 2,000 bottles of the Special Reserve are now available, priced at $225 per 750ml bottle. Distribution covers 20 U.S. states, with bottles also available through Blue Note’s website.

The release joins Blue Note’s expanding portfolio of limited expressions, which includes Premium Small Batch, Single Barrel Reserve, 17-year, Honey Rye, and Honey Bourbon Cask offerings. The brand’s core lineup features the award-winning Juke Joint, Crossroads, Uncut, and Straight Rye Whiskey.
