Berry Bros. & Rudd has announced a collection of 20 single cask scotch whiskies that have undergone secondary maturation in wine casks for at least three years. The 2025 Odyssey collection from Britain’s oldest wine and spirits merchant showcases whiskies from 11 different scotch distilleries.
Diverse Scottish Whisky Distilleries
The 2025 Odyssey collection, titled “Crafted in Cask,” showcases spirit from some of Scotlands oldest whisky distilleries, including Blair Athol, Teaninich, Glen Moray, Caol Ila, and Auchentoshan. Each whisky has been re-racked into complementary wine cask that has been chosen to enhance the original spirit’s character. The collection demonstrates the merchant’s 170-year expertise in independent bottling, with casks ranging from Margaux and Pomerol to Moscatel and Pedro Ximénez finishes.
Official tasting notes describe Blair Athol expressions featuring “blackcurrant wine gums” and “buttery caramel biscuits,” while peated Islay whiskies display “coal smoke” and “treacle” characteristics from sherry maturation.
Felix Dear, Spirits Curator at Berry Bros. & Rudd, said: “An Odyssey: Crafted in Cask is a collection showcasing the best of Scotland, celebrating the diversity of its regions, the individuality of each distillery, and the transformative power of wood.”
Premium Scotch Whisky Pricing and Availability
Prices for the collection range from $119 (£90) for younger Blair Athol expressions to $298 (£225) for the oldest bottling, a 25-year-old Sutherland 2000 finished in a quarter cask. The full range will be available from September 11, 2025, at Berry Bros. & Rudd’s historic St. James’s Street location in London.
Six bottlings will reach selected UK retailers, including Auchentoshan 2010 at $152 (£115) and Inchgower 2009 at $126 (£95). The remaining 14 expressions will be distributed to international markets, with ABV levels ranging from 48.6% to 63.2%.
The secondary maturation technique employed reflects broader industry trends, as scotch whisky producers increasingly experiment with wine cask finishes to create distinctive flavor profiles. Berry Bros. & Rudd’s relationships with wine producers, developed through centuries of trading from their London premises established in 1698, provide access to premium casks from renowned wine regions.
The collection represents a significant release in the competitive single cask market, where limited availability and unique characteristics command premium prices among whisky collectors and enthusiasts worldwide.
