The whisky investment market has certainly shifted since 2022, but 2025 can still have a positive outlook, for whisky investors, especially those with a contrarian outlook. After tracking secondary market corrections through multiple indices, I spoke with five industry specialists who agree current pricing presents exceptional opportunities for patient collectors.
These five specialist shared with me their top whisky investment picks for 2025, focusing on bottles that combine drinking quality with long-term appreciation potential.
Market Correction Creates Investment Opportunities
The secondary whisky market experienced significant corrections in 2024. The Knight Frank Rare Whisky Index, which tracks ultra-rare expensive bottles, declined alongside broader market indices. Modern releases that reached astronomical prices have seen substantial pullbacks, creating entry points for savvy investors.
“Some of those modern releases have seen significant corrections over the last 12 months, but the reality is that many of us in the industry are not surprised; it was a matter of when not if for certain releases,” notes Beau Wallace, Director at The Grand Whisky Auctions.

Macallan Anniversary Malts Show Strong Potential
Wallace selected The Macallan Anniversary Malts as his 2025 investment choice. This discontinued series marked Macallan’s entry into high age statement single malts but remains undervalued compared to more recent releases from the luxury whisky distillery.
“The Anniversary Malt Series marked the start of Macallan’s foray into high age statement single malts and represents a really interesting story for fans of scotch whisky,” Wallace explained. “Despite having both vintage and age statements the series has always seemed undervalued when you look at it in comparison to some later series.”
The series offers vintage appeal without the premium pricing of more recent Macallan releases, making it attractive for collectors seeking entry into the Macallan market.

Brora Special Releases Offer Collector Entry Point
Joe Wilson, Head Curator & Spirits Specialist at Whisky Auctioneer, recommends the annual Brora Special releases. These bottles provide accessible entry into the prestigious Brora market without ultra-premium pricing.
“When the first Brora was included in the annual Diageo Special Releases in 2003, it importantly marked the first occasion that an official single malt brand had been marketed for the distillery,” Wilson explained. The original bottlings were priced at $183 (£150) and maintained familiar presentation styles.
“While the value of these bottles is now considerably higher, they still represent one of the best avenues for new collectors to enter the market for Brora,” Wilson added.

Iconic Macallan Private Eye Remains Popular Choice
Yuri Bronzina, Managing Director from Just Whisky Auctions, selected the Macallan Private Eye for 2025. This iconic bottle combines eye-catching design with limited edition appeal, maintaining strong collector demand.
“Macallan remains one of the most sought after distilleries with collectors, and Private Eye with its eye-catching design and stated limited edition number makes it likely to stay a popular choice,” Bronzina noted. Current values have softened to pre-pandemic levels, creating attractive entry points for patient investors.

Budget-Friendly Lagavulin Fèis Ìle Bottles Provide Value
Thomas Gardiner, director and owner of Scotch Whisky Auctions, champions Lagavulin Fèis Ìle bottles as cost-effective collector options. These festival releases celebrate the annual Islay whisky festival and offer both drinking pleasure and investment potential.
“The popularity of the festival means that getting involved in person isn’t a cheap experience, when you factor in getting to and staying in Islay,” Gardiner explained. “However at auction some of the older bottles are down at the moment, while newer releases can actually go under retail.”
The Fèis Ìle bottles from collectable distilleries like Lagavulin present good opportunities for long-term holds.

Vintage Macallan 18-Year-Olds Target 1970s Collectors
Jonny Fowle, Global Head of Whisky & Spirits at Sotheby’s, recommends Macallan 18-year-old 1970s vintages. These bottles offer dual appeal as collectibles and milestone birthday gifts for those approaching 50.
“The Macallan 18 year old series is arguably the longest running single malt scotch series,” Fowle explained. While vintage statements date back to 1962, the 1970s vintages released from the late 1980s onward represent his 2025 selection.
“For me the 1970s vintages, released from the late 80s onward are my selection for 2025 as they are fantastic whisky for drinking and collecting,” Fowle added.

Springbank Millennium Collection Represents Quality Investment
Daniel Milne, managing director at Whisky Hammer, selected The Springbank Millennium Collection as his 2025 pick. This six-bottle series features high age statements from 25 to 50 years old, released between 1998 and 2001.
“Any bottle from the series represent good value in today’s market as they tick ‘all the boxes’— incredibly rare, discontinued, super quality spirit and desirable age statements,” Milne explained. Springbank’s maintained small-batch approach despite increased demand helps sustain desirability.
The collection combines rarity, quality, and discontinued status, making individual bottles attractive 2025 purchases.
These expert selections span price ranges from accessible festival releases to premium vintage expressions, providing investment options for various collector budgets and risk appetites.
